Not everyone has this problem Can you reproduce this issue? Do YOU own a 5d2? I've shot four 5D IIs and they all had the same problem with the noise banding. Other than the AF and the banding issue, I would've owned one a long time ago. I used to be in the 5Dc was the best camera bang for your buck attitude and it still is. When it comes to the 5D II, I feel it's not what I expect in a $2500 dollar camera. That's my opinion of course. **shrugs**

No, that's what lies upon *EVERY* frame shot with the 5D2; you just usually don't see it because the signal is is much stronger. The blackframe is not a joke; it is the fingerprint of camera read noise. This is what is fighting the signal effectively in the shadows, and less effectively in the highlights.

They are the rock bottom of exposure; that which mixes with signal more, the weaker the signal is. If the blackframe were truly black, you could shoot action under moonlight, with a pleasant Poisson noise.

Only Olympus has more random read noise at this point in time, and that's not even counting the banding in the 5D2. Another subjective comment. Canon 5D2 20D & 300D 50mm f1.8 mk 2, 24-105 f4 IS L

I just find it amusing how many get so anal about such things they have to post obscure pics of small corners multiplied 500 times and ramped up the underexposed shots by boatloads to prove a point we already agree on. I don't see any pictures like those anywhere except the whinge threads but I do see great photos like these and these in threads where they count. All this other stuff is for amusement purposes only as they tend to bring out those with obsessive compulsive tendencies ![]() cheers ![]() Well, I'm not obsessive compulsive about the 5D II.

It's a great camera and it takes nice images. Does it fit my needs for what I shoot? Of course not. I'm spoiled by the 1Ds III and the great features a 1 series has to offer. The reasons I don't own a 5D II are personal to me and no one else has to convince me. I'm sure your reasoning is similar. ![]() Exactly!!!!!!!! Canon 5D2 20D & 300D 50mm f1.8 mk 2, 24-105 f4 IS L

Who in their right mind uses such underexposed shots? I dump them. If I miss out well tough for me. For god's sake some of you guys are so anal it's hilarious. Black boxes and obscure raw programs just to prove something we are aware of. If you don't like the camera don't buy it or if you own it and hate it then sell it. ![]() Looks like you don't understand what a black frame is, or what you can do with it to improve your images.
