I have a 5D classic and looking to get an additional memory card. (I just use Sandisk)
B&H only offers the new Extreme 60MB/s and the Ultra 30MB/s. All the type III's and IV's are discontinued.

It doesn't make much sense to use the Extreme if the 5D can't take advantage of it, unless it's the card that dictates how fast the camera can write. (Ie: if the card speed is like the diameter of a hose, the bigger the hose the faster a given volume of water can pass through. However, if the camera is the faucet, and it can only allow "x" amount of water through, the hose size won't matter if "x" is smaller then either hose capacity)

Thanks for your thoughts.

I bought new 8GB 30MB/s ultras when I got my 5D to replace my 4GB Extreme III's. Made no sense to me spending extra for speed the camera will not use. I am happy with the transfer speeds of my old Extreme III's between the Card reader and PC. The Ultras transfer speeds are about about equal (average 25MB/s)

If you are looking for faster file transfers between the card reader (provided you have a card reader fast enough to take advantage of the 60MB/s) then the extreme 60MB/s would be handy and could possibly cut transfer times in half.

Another advantage of the Extreme series is that they have a bigger tolerance to the environment spec wise (correct me if I am wrong).

These two advantages didn't overcome the price difference between the new ultas and extreme's for me so I got the Ultras.
