Hi - I am going to the practice sessions on Friday at Silverstone, and was hoping some kind folks would suggest the best spots for good views of the track for taking photos??
Also, any advice, not done much motorsport before! I shall be using my 400D and 70-200 2.8 prob with the 2x TC. Looking for ideal shutter speeds for blur etc.

All advice welcome, the pics in this part of the forums are awesome.
Thanks

I cant help you with the track but I can help you some with settings. The 70-200 and 2x should work just fine if you are close to the track. For tire blur you can usually shoot as high as 1/640. This will give you a crisp shot of the car and will show a little movement in the scene. You can play around with the shutter for more background blur, etc of course.

Just experiment some and you will soon figure it out fairly easily.

Have fun and be sure to post you results!

Well....heres some of my shots. I took nearly a thousand, as this was the first time I'd really tried any panning shots. Out of that, 50% were keepers, and these are my fav few!

I have to agree, looks far better without the desat.

I'm another in favour of the non-desaturated look.

Congrats on the pics, I was there on Saturday and couldn't imagine shepherding my gear through the crowds...so much busier now than the 90's.

There is not enough movement in 3, 4 and 5 for me. The Ferrari shot is very nice though, plenty of movement and nice and sharp with good colours.

The pic of Vettel is nice because of colours and its sharp but there is almost no movement at all :(

Viper - I know what your saying - I would have loved to get some proper blur on the background - but this was my first time properly shooting these cars, from public access areas, and they come past fast!! I got similar shots with blur, but not so sharp on the car. If I can find a decent one I will post it up.

Yeh I know how you feel. I was adamant to get some good sharp photos and unfortunately didnt get a properly crisp photo of Vettel :(

I'll get my set up when I've edited them. Graduation first...

You could selective colour the Ferrari :)
