Budget beginner Kit?

I found these 2 options on amazon:

http://www.amazon.com …cs&qid=1278546966&sr=8-29 (external link)

I'm looking for an affordable beginners kit (including a bag) that's easy to assemble and move. I'll be using foam board for backgrounds for the time being so I'm not looking for included backdrops. I'd love some experienced input from you guys - do those kits / prices look too good to be true?

Thanks!

I have bought the e-bay cheap kits, and trust me...they stink. I highly recommend saving a little more of your hard earned cash and trying THIS ;) (external link)

That's way too much for me. I'm going to be saving money for glass, I just need a beginner kit. I think the most expensive I'd go would either be this:

Or one of these:

You really get what you pay for with lighting, they are all underpowered for anything other than small object still life shots, or head shots.

You do know that none of those are are actual flash kits, or strobes...they are continuous lighting kits, basically just sockets that hold low power florescent lights. If that's what your wanting you could build your own with parts from home depot, and then just buy some stands off e-bay....just a thought.

I was thinking of doing that but I figured I'd be spending around the same amount.. so why not buy a real kit?

So I guess I won't flush money down with those kits.

Those kits are really going to just frustrate the hell out of you when you realize how weak they are and that they are just 30-60 watt non adjustable house lights that don't actually flash. Like I said, you really get what you pay for with lighting...just save the extra cash if you can and buy some REAL 400-600 watt strobes ;)

Ok, I guess I'll start saving. In the mean time I'll start reading some lighting theory books so my money is well spent ;)

I started with cont. lights and found out very quickly I wasted my money.
My suggestion would be to start with one manual flash like the YN465, a light stand and a 45" umbrella and some ebay triggers. play with that while you are saving up for strobes..by the time you have the money for them you will know how to use lighting.
