Backpacking at 11,000 ft. +

I just got back from my Backpacking trip. 55 miles in 4 days going over Bishop Pass (11,972 ft), Muir Pass(11,955 ft), and Piute Pass (11,423 ft) with 20 miles of snow and a lot major creek crossing with water level up to chest up and area requiring to ice climbing and my pack about 55lb... I give you my vacation..... Enjoy

I miss backpacking. Used to do a lot before my knees went south. I have a backpacking website, The Backcountry (external link), actually I had that before I got into photography.

That's not a vacation, that's an expedition! Great photos, I love the scenery, but I also like the altimeter pic as well.

why are fires not allowed above 10,000ft?

It was nice in the morning, but the weather got hotter in the afternoon and made the trekking harder because of snow got softer... the snow was melting about 1 foot a day...

to answer your question about fire...
"Fires are not allowed above 10,000 ft to allow the sparse downed branches and duff to decompose and seep nutrients into the soil. You will notice that trees in these areas are shorter and less dense than at lower elevations. Many of these areas simply cannot support enough wood gathering to allow the quantities of visitors camped there to have a fire. Not having a campfire has advantages including a decreased 'footprint' on the land and greatly enhanced stargazing opportunities!" -US Forest Service

aw thank you... there are almost no trees at that height indeed.

same here could not walk period pain was intense now new hips and knee surgery is salvage enough said.getting old was great fun being old is not lol.
moral of the story do not postpone joy! glad I learned that early on remember time is your only deminishing asset spend it wisely. climb those mountains.

Thanks!! It was great experience and met a lot people too on the PCT and JMT! I love my Core! I recently got it because my Vector finally give it last leg... it serve me well and been through a lot too!
