Hi everyone!

New to the forum and just got a 1000d with kit lense a week or so ago. I know to most on here it's nothing special but it's a major advancement for me!

I took some night shots last night here in South Korea of just random street scenes and have two I would like some advice on if you would be so kind?

First one I tried to capture the blurred tail lights of cars passing on the motorway and the second I spotted a couple relaxing on the balcony of a coffee shop which sums up this place pretty well!

I'd like some feedback on how I can improve these as before this my night photography was horrific to say the least! (Perhaps it still is!?!)

Thanks in advance!

You captured the car lights fairly well, but as you said yourself, there is nothing special about the shot. Try to find something stationary to fill the foreground so that the shot isn't boring.

For the second, play around with the settings on your camera more. It may take a while to understand what you can achieve with your camera, but with time and practice you will gain understanding and be able to take clearer and more vibrant shots.

^ Agreed. The first one really doesnt have much to grab your eye, other than the moving cars. The second one looks like it might be a tad OOF. Either a looser or tighter crop on the subjects might make it a little more appealing. Ive found that composition plays a HUGE role when dealing with night time shots. Keep it up and welcome to POTN! :)

I like the night snap shot
with the blur of the cars
maybe if you cropped out the bare street at the bottom
it would draw the eye in more

Welcome to POTN!
Some of the best "night shots" I've seen were taken before it's totally dark while there's still some light left in the sky. You don't need much, but you need some if you want to get a bit of separation between the buildings & the dark sky.
