I have been contemplating getting a 5DMKII and have noticed that they are out of stock pretty much everywhere in Canada now. I think B&H is out as well.

I know they just had a big $600 rebate here in June and that may have accounted to the lack of inventory now, but man you would think stock would be replenished rather quickly since this is still a production camera.

Could this be an indication of an announcement for the 5D MKIII?

Highly doubtful. Even when they do announce a new body, there are usually still previous models in the channel. I don't think I've ever seen it where they run down stock for retailers before a body announcement.

Apple does this with their iPods and MacBooks... definitely MacBooks. It happens a lot.

I do not think we will see the mk111 yet. Usually there are leaks on obscure web sites.

At one time the shortage was due to the video guys snapping them up.

With other items, sure. I said I haven't seen Canon do it with camera bodies.

Seems odd for them to have a $500 rebate and dump all the stock like that but ah well, who knows...

McBain in Edmonton has some. I almost pulled the trigger on one last week.

No price bounce in Canada after the $500 rebate either .. I'd say the 5D3 will be announced in the early fall.

my theory is that when the USD went par & about with the CAD, along with the $500 re-bait, the 5d2 because a tempting purchase for those who had saved for it.

Ya I'm kind of hoping for an anouncement this fall, but I'm not holding my breath for it. If they get more stock in soon and the price is right, I might just get one. They where going for 2249.99 at a few places in the past few weeks

Weaker consumer economy = reduced inventories at retailers.

The economy isn't really as much of an issue here in Canada. We've been doing quite well through the global recession.
