I just sold my backpack so now I would like to replace it with something that can hold a fair amount of gear ( 5d2, 2 zoom lenses, 1 prime, flash + accessories ) . I am considering the Urban Disguise 40 or 50 but I am having a hard time finding what the difference is between these 2 bags. Any info or pics/vids of the 2 would be appreciated.

Also would a Flipside 300 be any good? much cheaper option and even though I do not usually care for backpacks the low price and small size are appealing if I do need a backpack.

A firend of mine blogged about these bags and has a video for you too. If I remember, the video talks about the 40 and 50.

If I'm not mistaken, only UD50 can hold laptop.

You might also consider the UD 35. I had the UD 40 and the 35 is the exact same footprint. The laptop area can be very helpful to carry a jacket/magazine, etc, and that was the thing that I missed in the UD 40.

I have the 50 and I love it! It's a great bag, and I do carry my 5D with 24-70 and 70-200 in the main compartment and then a 13.3 inch laptop on the other opening. It has many little compartments. I usually use my Domke F-802 for carrying my 2 cameras with lenses attached and a flash, but if I need a laptop, I have no choice but to use the UD50. It's not big enough to take 2 cameras with long lenses. If I need my laptop, it's in the UD50.

I have both. They can take roughly about the same amount of camera gear (the UD50 is about an inch longer), but as stated only the UD50 has a laptop compartment. Get the UD40 unless you need space for a laptop.

The UD50 is slightly larger than the 40 and will accommodate a laptop that the 40 will not. I used to have the 50 and you should have no problem fitting the gear you mentioned. The only reason I don't still have it is that I gripped my 7D and it wouldn't fit, so I went up to the UD70 Pro. That is one huge bag! I also have the Flipside 300 (and 400) and maybe I'm not good at packing but I think things might be a little tight in the 300, depending on which zooms you are taking along. Like you, I don't usually care for backpacks so I rarely use mine at all. The nice thing about the 300 is that you can tuck away the waist straps when you don't need them. If you have a local store I would really suggest trying out the 300 before you buy.

The UD 35 will fit a gripped camera too.

with some cajoling and regular use, the 40 and 50 can fit a gripped body. it's not specifically intended to, but the material will stretch sufficiently.

Thanks for all the feedback, My 5d2 is not gripped so not really concern with that. I used to have the UD35 and I recently sold it for the R-10 but now I am thinking of going back to the UD series but in the 40 or 50. I liked the UD35 but I rarely used a 70-200 mounted so the wider opening would be more useful then being tall.

So basically the real difference between 40 and 50 is a laptop compartment? is the area for a laptop useful for other things? I used to use the UD35 laptop area for magazines when I travel or accessories.

I used it for magazines too but I also used to put my R-Strap in there so I wouldn't have to fold it up and put creases in it. Other than that just my white/gray card contraption.

I am leaning toward the 40. seems the 50 is a little bulkier and heavier too. I don't often carry a laptop with my camera and if I did it seems a dedicated laptop bag may work better.

The 40 is considerably more compact. I can take a picture of both together later tonight if you're interested.

^ your camera equipment would overpower the flipside 300. the 400 might do it, but the urban 40 and 50 look to better suit your needs
