Also, nothing to contribute to the "badass" mentality of a skater than a big, colorful, happy playground in the background I think you need to bump your shutter speed (unless you're going for some motion blur) and maybe get a lens with quicker AF for sure. i only have the kit lens (18-55 at 3.5-5.6) right now. i'm saving up for a better lens. not sure what yet though. and yeah about the playground... haha they didnt make our park very photogenic background wise. lol thanks for the comments Canon 6D

I think he is referring to it being very bright out and you still having motion blur. The first one was at f13 1/200ths Why? You could have opened the lens up so your shutter speed would have been double or triple that, and there would be no blur. It shows the flash was on, but It doesn't look like it helped much. 50D. 28-135 Kit, Nifty Fifty, 24-105 L

The ISO should still be around 200-400 and you'll stop all the action. It'll also possibly create some bokeh in the background.

Not having a lot of money or the nicest stuff has nothing to do with composition. Your insecurity about your gear doesn't really help you with this one. Flip through a skate mag. Notice that the run-ups, landings, and body parts are never cut off, there are rarely any lurkers, horizons are almost always level, no butt shots, subject is usually framed well in the photograph, and the photo utilizes an angle that is not commonly seen. You'll rarely see skate photos in which the photographer was just standing up and pointing his camera at the dude. The idea is not just capturing what's going on, but capturing it with creativity. -Joseph
