The Vertex is considerably more rugged and heavier. Pro Runner is like a poor mans Vertex really. They both have the similar compartment size, and fits both a 13" laptop.

The Vertex 100 is also a fair bit smaller in height, which is ok because its compact for travel use..

I didn't end up buying either in the shop, but to me, the Vertex was a better choice because of the better weather proofing, tougher quality and looks better overall. Plus the harness straps are a bit more plush so will be more comfy on your back/shoulders.

i personally like the look of the pro runner. i wont be in any conditions where id need weather sealed zippers, and i need it light because all my gear and my laptop will be heavy enough as is! i wish i had a store that carried both of these bags so i can see it in person!

Pro Runner should be for you then. Its still great quality. Its definitely lighter. Its got the stealth black look. You prefer the look of it + its cheaper, so I wouldn't regret it if I were you.

I have the Pro Runner 300, which does not accomodate a laptop. I have not used the Vertex, so I cannot compare. However, the Pro Runner is a great backpack. Well padded and lightweight, it holds a lot of gear. The materials and build workmanship are top rate. My only comment would be that I wish it had more organization for the personal items. But, if you are looking for a no-nonsense backpack with cool urban styling and functionality, it is worth a look.d

+1.

I have the ProRunner 300 AW, 450 AW and Vertex 300 AW. One of the major changes that they made with the ProRunner is that the waist straps and belt can now be tucked inside the backpack through two vertical slits, versus the Vertex waist straps have to be tied up or bundled (a couple of enterprising souls actually cut theirs off-not ME!).

Also, the Vertex Glide-Lock slots for Slip-Lock attachments are movable, while the ProRunner has fixed Slip-Lock attachment points.
