Though I have to admit that my own stupidity was directly related.

Last evening I was down by the beach at our vacation rental cabins. There were bands of clouds being lit by a brilliant sunset and some old rowboats piled on the beach. I tried to take a picture with my 5D Classic on a tripod, but I wanted the camera about 6" off the sand and I was struggling to see through the viewfinder.

My 1D4 was in the bag. It has live view. Simple. So I grabbed the 1D4 and triggered live view to take the shot. But now, no matter what I did I could not select a shutter speed longer than 1/30. I was scrolling through the custom functions like crazy trying to see what was wrong. Meanwhile the light was peaking and I was about to lose the light.

I gave up and turned off live view. I was about to go back to the 5D when I realized I could now select the 1 second exposure I wanted. Doh! I had movie mode enabled because I had been messing around with it a few months ago. The whole time I'd been sitting there in the sand the 1D was trying to make a movie of the sunset and not a still.

Oh - and sorry but I cannot share the picture right now. I shot everything in RAW and I only have my little netbook here at the cabins so I cannot convert anything.

I was able to load DPP onto my Acer netbook? What brand and OS do you have?

I probably could process images on the netbook, but the idea of trying to do so with my little slow processor / 1MB RAM netbook is not attractive especially with files from the 16MP 1D4. Plus the netbook has no DVD drive so I would have to install the software over a rather slowish wireless internet connection.

I'll be home tomorrow where I have my desktop and Lightroom.

Gotcha, I can see that, I don't remember how long it took me to install that on the netbook, it was over a year ago. I know I have used it though a few times. What interested me more was being able to use the netbook for tethered events though.

There's an advantage with the dedicated still/video selector on the 7D.
