A keen-eyed poster on the FM site noticed this buried in an Elinchrom PDF:

IMAGE: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4118/4777248644_e478699858_o.jpg

It's a 150cm INDIRECT deep octa.

Yes! I just saw that on FM too.
I'm speechless and ready to hand over whatever crazy number of Euros they throw at me.

my. god. WANT.

Sadly, given elinchrom's track record....we'll only have to wait until late 2011 until this thing actually hits shelves.

Maybe so, Jeff, buy they'll still make it to market before the V2 PLMs.

I'll make a guestimate of $595.00. I was going to say higher comparing it to the 74", but that modifier has a following and it's taken them a long time to get there. This is still new and untested. So i stick with $595.

Given the El Octa (74") goes for a little over a grand, I'm guessing about $750-800.

Can't you buy this over in India at much cheaper prices? There was a guy selling elinchrom stuff from India on this forum.

Just wondering why these costs so much more than the PCB predecessors?

Without opening a giant can of worms/sidetracking this thread immensely (PLEASE can we not turn this into an AB vs Elinchrom thread), it comes down to quality. Both build quality, and quality of light.

The elinchrom indirect El Octa is a downright famous modifier, used by thousands of professional photographers since the mid-1980s. The PCB version is basically a glorified umbrella without the magical soft light qualities of the El Octa, or the high build quality that will ensure lights don't fall off/rods dont break/everything sits snugly and happily. Also, elinchrom El Octa is made/used generally for incredibly soft/flattering light, whereas the PLM is intended more for fashiony light.

In the end, 2 entirely different beasts.

Thanks, didn't know about the can of worms between these two companies and their fans.
