Rather than using its own Alpha cameras, Sony uses Canon 5D to take its press shots

No bragging list - I just rent whatever the job requires.

Haha, just read that on Engadget and it almost made me laugh out loud. Just goes to show that they apparently don't think enough of their own DSLR line to make their ad agency use them. Priceless.

Is it possible they couldn't find any pros using only Sony?

Seriously, I don't get it. The A900 actually has better base ISO quality (more DR, more resolution) than the 5Dmk2, so what was their purpose?

I would have to assume (like a lot of organizations) that divisions within Sony don't work together. The Cybershot division went and has some pics done by someone without even working with or contacting the Alpha division.

I honestly wouldnt be assured...as cold or harsh it is to say I think Sony is going with the E-mount and their NEX-system as the basis for future cameras...

Sony has shown an astonishing comitment to not competing at all with their dSLRs after such promise with the a700

Sony really lacks a D300s/K7/7D fighter for one, the a700 is VERY long in the tooth..and I dont think the a550 is that compelling against the T2i or D90 to be honest....

That's sad to think they have either no confidence in their own equipment to shoot on the equipment or that they are unable to find a SINGLE pro who shoots on their equipment. You'd think a press release prior to the shoot would enable them to find individuals frothing at the bit to work on the pieces!!

Like I said above, I bet the Cybershot team doesn't even talk to the Alpha team. Most large corporations have trouble communicating and they may not even be in the same building or even city.

The welth of ignorance in this thread is amazing!

So let me ask you fellas, how do you think press images are created ? You think a company who hire a AD agency provide them with whatever equipment is needed to do the job they hired them to do ?

You think the AD agency work alone ?

You think Nikon and Canon's press images are shot soley with their own equipment ?

LOL

tkbslc seems to be the only one having a clue in this thread...

The dSLR market is difficult if your name is not Canon or Nikon. I think Sony are wise to make a market in a sector not quite so dominated by the big two. Once they have earned a place, with loyal customers of their own, then is the time to challenge the big two.

But that day WILL come, I have no doubt about it at all.

I think the days of the dSLR as we know it today are numbered. Optical viewfinders and mirrors will go, possibly followed by focal plane shutters, or even shutters of any kind. Bodies are bound to get smaller and lighter once all these bits are removed. A sensible manufacturer will have quitely done some homework, looked at where they think the market will be in 10, maybe 20 years time and planned accordingly.

The fact that Sony's own staff use "brand X" is amusing and a PR slip up, but no more than that.
