I'm sorry, I looked aroud just a little bit (posting from work). But I'm not seeing a thread asking for opinions on upgrading cameras.

Right now, I'm using a Rebel XS, and was thinking that it's about time to see about upgrading my body; I was thinking to the T1i, and spent most of the day reading a bunch of different reviews on both of the cameras; but nothing really ever directly comparing them.

So, knowing that many of you guys, use these cameras, or have atleast had your hands on them. Do you think going from XS to T1i is worth it? (I was actually considering 50d, but it doesn't seem to use EF-S lenses).
Was also thinking of the T2i, but the upgrades from T1i to T2i seem to be more on the video side; which I'm not interested in at all, I buy a DSLR to take photos...not video.

If not, that one, which one do you think I should go to? (Please include detailed jargon, that's what I'm interested in hearing. Canon only).

If you are going to upgrade at all, I would suggest at least an XXd model. Rebel to rebel isn't really going to be worth it, especially if you're into photography to take photos, not video, as you say.

Actuslly, it does !! (5d/5dii dont though, in case that was a typo)

I have a 50D, awesome camera, and I'd thoroughly recommend it.

.... but ....

What's wrong with your old body?
What type of glass have you got?
What will an upgrade give you?

Most people will happily try to spend your money for you, but it help to know a little more.

As was posted the 50D certainally uses EF-S lenses. I upgraded from the XTI to the 50D and have no regrets. The question is what are you expecting to see out of the upgrade? The T1I does video and you said you don't want video, so what do you want?

What I'm looking for in an upgrade is:
Better sensor
Better AF functionality. (XS has 7point slowness, though I do a lot of full manual)
More FPS in RAW (I got around 1.3 with my XS? Useless.)
Better build; the XS like most people will say, feel likes a toy.
Not more megapixels, but more overall sharpness, as well as ISO sensitivity, I'm capped at 1600; which is super emergency only, never to really be used. (In my opinion).

I'm not some loon that thinks that I'll get super amazing awesome pics just because I get a more expensive body, my glass is CHEAPPP. Kit 18-55IS, it's brother 55-250IS, and the nifty fifty.

Should I upgrade my glass and wait?

Sounds a bit like its a XXD body you're after then, 40D or 50D depending on budget.

Oh, or 7D, however that's a tad more expensive....... but hits all your needs / wants

Really looking at the 50d now. The 40d seems just fine too, but I can't find one that actually costs less than the 50d, without buying it used, and I don't really trust buying used.

Well, for the reasons it appears that a 40D or 50D is what you are looking for.

The price of the used 40Ds have really come down if you check out the sell forum. Many have only a few thousand shots on them.

If you can afford it a 7D would satisfy your desires, and then some.

Sensor - Yes, good detail with and nice cropablility at 18mp
AF - Very flexible and fast, puts most other systems to shame
FPS - 8 in JPEG and RAW is plenty for anything
Build - Maybe my favourite thing about the 7D, very solid.
ISO - Capable of actually being very clean at 3200 or 6400

The 40/50D will do the same as what I mentioned, but to a lesser extent.

i would invest in glass before buying another body, and if you do get a body id suggest the xsi (paying for video if you dont use it is silly). But an upgrade from xs to xsi isnt really worth it, glass my friend, glass!

I;d get a 50D or a 7D. A 7D is pretty much a 50D on steroids and with video.
