Because it help prove you owned the item. Your are right fraud could be committed with receipts. Just providing a tip from our experience. The items we could provide receipts for were not disputed. We were paid the full amount on those items, which were few. The items we had no proof of ownership or value, the company depreciated approximatly 75%.

And I am not trying to start a dicussion about fraud. I am only pointing out another reason to hang onto a receipt other than the warranty. :)

I keep mine in the box just for fun. I like to look at them and see how long I had something/ how much I spent.
