A little discussion and opinion thread, so there are no rights and wrongs:

What was the best accessory you ever bought for your DSLR?

For me, this was the KATA camera bag, holds a notebook and all my gear.

Right now, probably the Domke f-6
No longer do I have to get on the ground to change lenses.

Best future one? Purchasing a new tripod in the next month.

Does flash count as an accessory, or a piece of gear? If flash doesn't count then I'd have to say my tripod.

What is an accessory ?
Probably real close - grip - cpl - spare battery - firewire reader - pelican bag - computer - CS 3 - spare cards - interval timer everything but tripod is in bag .
I have not even turned on flash in months so maybe the rest are essentials and flash is an accessory if you consider an accessory is something you would not run right out and buy if it broke or you lost it .
Believe it or not I have at least 2 of everthing I listed .

Aquatech gloves with holes that you can poke your thumb and fingertip through and still work your camera - I don't know how I would have got through the winter without them. They were fantastic.
I'm actually thinking of buying another pair this year because I'd hate to lose one and have to wait a couple of weeks for the replacement pair to arrive (they seemed to be backordered everywhere last winter.)

Similarly, waterproof trousers (mine were Patagonia in the sale) were a good buy too as since I've had them, it just doesn't matter to me now if the ground is snowy, wet or muddy when I'm getting into position to take a photograph.

+1

Helped from paid shoots with remote cameras to family/friends gatherings to camwhore (:

But I didn't actually buy the remote because it was given to me for writing a review for a local photo company / community... soo...

I'd say it's my Think Tank Airport Takeoff roller backpack. Helped my back for so many shoots that if I were to give it away free now that I've used it for just under a year, it would've already been worth its price.

No, I'm not giving it away for free

Lowepro Classified 250 AW...

First "walking around" bag I've owned and it makes casual shooting soooo much easier than a backpack style.

Very versatile, comfortable and (best of all) low key.
