What grip did you buy, Canon or alternative? I own a T2i and think about a grip to lengthen battery live and balancing out against heavier lenses. Would like to know your opinion about this topic and what you recommend, where you buy, and why.

Thanks! A.

I used a zeikos grip on 450D. Perfect fit, no flaw. The button is shallower than the one on the camera, but i never use a canon grip so i don't know if its different or not.

Does a T1i grip also fit for the T2i ? E.g. the Zeikos ZE-CBGXSI Power Battery Grip

Who knows?

Your last question: 350D and 400D share BG-3. Should think 450D and 500D do as well. Check specs & accessories for them.

I got Canon for my 400D. Read comparisons with people who weren't happy with their alternative one, and ended up buying original. Buy nice or buy twice working, like with tripods.

A friend of mine has alternative, can't remember the brand. He's OK with it.

I use a Canon grip for my T1i and it works great. My hands aren't that small and I mainly use my 24-70 which is quite heavy so the grip is a big plus. Only problem is my grip is stuck to the body, I need to send it to Canon for a fix. :(

A T2i grip isn't compatible with the T1i and vice versa. I'm sure a 3rd party would work fine.

Try shooting a basketball game, or some other similar event without a grip and after a few hours, you will know the answer to "why" a grip is so useful.

i've always used canon grips, myself. i've recommended some third party grips in the past since they were almost identical in quality. i'm not sure if QC has gone down, or what, but recently there's been some posts on this forum about problems with them. i was going to go third party with my next body, but i'll most likely stick with canon.

I got a Canon grip for my XSi. My dad got some off-brand one and the quality isn't even close. It also has problems with draining the batteries when the camera is turned off.

I'd spend a bit more and get the Canon one every time.

If you pick the right off brand, the quality will come close to canon's one. I know mine is pretty good. The jog dial feel is similar but not identical to the camera's jog dial. And since the rebels grip is only a piece of plastic, unlike higher series the quality difference couldn't be night and day. But on the other side, i'm also not very picky about grip tho

I've had a Phottix for my XSi for two years. No problems.

I bought a ziekios grip for my Rebel XS and it is wonderful. Gave me enough $$ left over to buy a battery and a lens hood
