A couple of months ago, my girlfriend and I visited the 2nd day of the NZ rally in the Franklin area. Great fun as always, been a few years since I managed to see the rally in NZ.

Great shots! I remember seeing those crazy photographers at the apex of the corner during the tv coverage of the Hampton Downs stage like in your shor #4. Those photogs seem to have a death wish (even more than the usual rally fan!). I visited the Port Waikato area earlier this year and it's definitely a great place to hold the rally.

Those cameramen certainly get close to the apex of the corners

#3 is my favourite

Nice shots. I had a look through your gallery as well, which I really liked. There are some good creative shots in there which capture the atmosphere of the rally well.

Warren, what a cracking set :D +1 for those brave (?) or should I say foolhardy video & togs ~ so trusting that the approaching cars will hold the line and not suffer a mechanical failure at the wrong moment. No way or place to escape to if the worst ever happened :(

Thanks for sharing.

That was a great meal ~ you must have a good set of pans :p

Thanks! It was my 3rd or 4th one now.
The last time I saw it was late 2006, when Valentino Rossi entered :)

Thanks, It's unbelievable really. They were basically standing on the edge of the dirt/curb, yet ocassionally we saw the tyres kick up dust from off track. They must have missed by mere inches.

Great work.

Thanks Chris,
the motion ones were shot with my 1DIII, set at the max 10fps. When I saw he was definitely going wide, I held down the shutter. Only after reviewing the photos at home, I could see the tyre coming off the rim!

I put them together via the animation function in photoshop. Using layers.

The rest being sharp, were just from an 900px web size action I have set with the simple watermark.

Thanks, yep totally mental. You could see that apex was quite grippy. After sliding sideways, they were often straightening out.
