I keep the 1.4x pretty much glued to my 500mm, which is always on the camera and ready to shoot anything interesting I see in my back yard (generally birds). I've planted a lot of native plants and have seen lots of interesting things show up. This tiger swallowtail butterfly landed on the milkweed so I ran outside to see if I could get a shot ... I think the combo worked pretty well! An extension tube would have helped so I didn't have to back up so much to get to minimum focus distance, and maybe have more interesting DOF. This is a hand held shot.
