I have been using LR for a long time and have never had this happen, something I probably did accidentally and don't know how to fix....

I import images into LR from "My Pictures" work on them, export them to a new folder. The problem is now I am getting a copy that has a -2 on it, such as img 101 it now says img 101-2 and it is putting a duplicate image in the origianl folder.

Am I making any sense? Please help.

It sounds like you may be using the same filename for your exports as a previous export.

Can you provide more info about your workflow? What is the reason for your exports? Web? Print?

I can describe what I do:)

To start with, I import from card to Zoom Browser (My Pictures) RAW images

In LR I choose "import" then choose My Pictures and the folder I want to work with. I open that folder, choose the images I want to work in LR and import them to LR. When finished with them I export them as jpgs. to a new folder on my desktop. Then what I have is the RAW images in their original folder and the jpgs. in a new folder. I have done this for years with no problems now suddenly this is whats happening.....

I am doing everything as described above BUT when I choose the images from the original folder in My Pictures, I now get a "copy"?? of the image in LR and it also puts a copy in the original folder (as pre LR, no work done on it) It comes into LR as a copy ....instead of IMG_4061CR2 it shows up in LR as IMG_4061CR2 It never did this before and I suspect that I accidentally somehow changed something I was doing, most likely in the import screen. But I don't know what I've done??

As a result of this I end up with the original "IMG_4061CR2" and a copy "IMG_4061-2 CR2" in my original folder. And I do have the exported jpg. in the new folder.
When I start to import and the import screen shows up it says:

File handling - Copy photos to a new location and add to catalog.

Me again. I just got told to use "Add photos to catalog without moving" instead of "Copy photos to a new location & add to catalog" and it seems to be working.

Glad you got it sorted! :)

Why are you importing via Zoombrowser first? Why not use LR for the import function? Seems you make your life unnecessarily difficult.

And I am very good at making my life unnecessarily difficult :D

I guess my best answer, or what my thinking process is is that I seldom want to run all the images through LR, so I just import with zoom browser and then do what i want with the images....some go to LR others I want to do something with in CS3 only and others I do nothing with because I like them how they are.

I am very much a creature of habit and that's just how I've always done it. I don't even think about the process until something like this happens.
