Except that no photog would ever rely on the owner to find a location, the rest is spot on.

Welcome to the glamorous world of car photography!

I do. It's winter here, I have a small window of opportunity. Tomorrow I'm leaving at 5.30am, driving three hours to a town I haven't been to before. I have three cars to shoot, and have to be back home that evening. I don't have time to drive around with the vehicles' owners looking for locations, so I emailed them a brief of the kind of place I'm looking for for each car (Same magazine, so locations have to be different). It's not an ideal situation but lack of time and no local knowledge leaves me with no alternative.

I've done it plenty of times. Driving 200 miles to a place I've never been? How practical is that for me to visit, scout for an entire day for places and drive back again... complete waste of time.

I just tell the owner what I want to shoot and they find it for me... usually takes a 20 min conversation.
