I just wanted to say that if you haven't seen this documentary, please watch it.

It's a documentary about the lives of several children born into the red light district of Calcutta. It documents the efforts of a photographer and some of her friends who attempt to help these children leave their surrounding and move on to better places by the means of teaching them photography and getting them recognized.

I think it's a must see, not just for the photography aspect of the film, but just the story of the lives people lead.

I first "listened to it" via the NPR babblers and then went to the website. I'd love to be able to catch the doc when it airs here for sure.

My wife and I found the best way to help. 19 years ago we adopted a child from Calcutta. He was orphaned, left at one of the many places where women go to give birth to their unwanted children. He's starting college this fall, in the honors program, and is a very satisfied and happy young man. I urge anyone, who is willing, to please consider adoption to give a child a chance at a better life.
God Bless,

Danny

It will be out on DVD soon, sometime in the fall I hear. It will also be on HBO/MAX/CINEMAX on the 16th of this month.

It won the tons of awards including an Oscar for best documentary. I had to watch this three times for it to really sink in. For me, it brings backs memories because I have seen places similar to this with my own eyes and they left a lasting impression on me, it's something you can't forget.

PersianRice - Who is the director? From which country is the documentary? I am just trying to see whether there is any chance that it'll be released in Canada.
