I am looking for a good inkjet printer that has more than 4 colors for a good rich color prints.

I am also interested in an affordable yet high quality alternative ink cartridges that goes with the printer. :)

The budget that I am willing to spend on the printer is up to $300, but as long as the printer is solid, I do not care how cheap it is. :)
But I do care about the ink cartridges cost.

Thank you!

Canon has been giving $400 rebate on their Pixma 9000 Mark II. I bought one. Don't know enough to know it fits your requirements but found some here.

Any "Photo" printer from Epson or Canon would do the job. I would have included HP 12 months ago, but they seem to have lost their way. Note I stressed the word "photo", a dual purpose printer is unlikely to give you what you want.

How do these printers do on ink? I've got an HP all-in-one that I bought last year new for $120 and I've already paid for it 2+x over in ink. And don't print alot! Just wondering if that's the nature of the beast of home printing.

I reckon your HP experience is pretty close to the mark. The printer manufacturers seem to use the Gillette business model, ie, sell the razor (printer) cheaply and make a fortune on the blades (ink).

Home printing is not cheap. But the quality is far better than any commercial printer will offer and you are in total control of the whole operation, not at the mercy of some brain dead idiot who has turned up at work with a hang-over, or worse, just hates his job.

I had an HP printer and spent a lot on gold. I mean ink.
I took a long time researching and reading before I bought an Artisan 800 (Epson) that I'm very happy with. Some pressure from the Director of Finance at home...for an all-in-one.
I'm very happy with my purchase, even though I've found the printer for 1/2 price since...
