If you could only use one lens for EVERYTHING you do for one year, what would it be?

The only real lens that could even come close would be the 15-85, but at that point, I'd probably just grab a Tamron 18-270 VC. I bounce back and forth enough between at least three lenses that I wouldn't last on just one.

I could do everything with the 24-70 if you don't get even more absurd on me and tell me my genre suddenly changed to the NFL and/or I can't use my lighting.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

*Keanu Reeves voice, "There is a gun to your head. one lens. one year. what would you do? What would you do??"

In that case, the 24-105L but I would have to forget about a lot of shoots that I was going to do as it won't be able to get the results.

At least I have full frame and crop bodies, so can maximise the wide angle with the FF and gain a little reach with the cropper's extra pixel density.

Hmmm.... I'd have to say that I'd choose the 14-400 ƒ1.2 L IS Mk II.

Oh, you mean real lenses that exist?!?!

LOL, in that case, it'd be the 35L.

Yes it'd be a 35mm for me too. I thought about 50mm, as that's quite versatile, but sometimes I crave wider and the 35 has served me well. I'd miss my 135mm though. Very much. Hell if i was forced to, I could use that for a year (I don't shoot professionally obviously). Iphone for wider snapshots/memories :D

I reeallllly wanted to say something similar, hence my saying the only "real" lens that would work... (Though mine would have been a much more realistic 10-200 f/2.8 IS! I'd have even been fine with the "crappier" Mk I!! :p)

24-70, but the 70-200 2.8 would be a close second.

yep. With the 5d2 there is a lot of crop room, so 70mm wouldn't be so bad as long as you don't do sports or birding

Yeah I wanna say 70-200 but then I might end up needing something wider. So I'll go with 24-70.

i actually did this for over a year

85L II

a great lens to learn about light, for me at least.

Having used one for a few days this might just be my second choice, but it is actually really hard to decide which is more useful, the 85L II or Zeiss 100 Makro-Planar.
