I just picked up a 50d and is needing to hook up a pc cord to it, I dont want to use the pc sockett that is on the camera as I dont want to expose the other inputs to the dust in the air from the race track. All the other shooters out there us Nikon stuff and they use this adaptor on their bodies.

I was wondering if these would work on the Canon hotshoes or is it Nikon only? if its only Nikon is there a Canon version?

thanks

The Nikon one on E-Bay will not work and might damage your 50D, as the other poster has asked what do you want to do?

i want to hook up my flash using the pc cords that way i can mount off the camera a bit. i already use the pc cord to hook up the flash on my 30d but the pc sockett is in a diffrent location on the 50d and I would have to uncover more of the other inputs on the 50 than I do on the 30

Just exactly what data do you have to support your claim?
We use a Nikon adapter that looks a lot like the ebay one on our Canon cameras all the time. They are just a plastic block that adapts the hotshoe connection to a PC connection. There are no electronics in it, just a basic connection. I would love to hear how that can damage a camera.

I would checkout the adapters at Flash Zebra instead. He is a reliable seller and can help you get what you need for probably less money.

thanks, i just called the local camera shop here and they said it will work just fine, im still a bit worried on the voltage though so I think im goin to just get the wein safe sync.... ive had no issues with it being hooked up to my 30d without the safe sync but dont know if I really want to risk it on the new 50d

You have not yet told us what flash unit you want to connect to the 50D.

The only way you could damage your camera is if the trigger voltage on the flash is too high for the camera, however if it's been working fine on the 30D it'll work on the 50D. Honestly if I was in your position I'd jsut use the PC sync connection already on the camera, just put some gaffa tape round it and the covering the other connections to keep out any dirt.

I was hooking up the Norman 200b.....yea it worked fine on the 30d and the 10d without any problems... just with the 50d they relocated the pc port on it and it would mean id have to take the whole rubber cover off of it resulting exposing it to the dirt and dust. I just went out and got the Wein Safe Sync.... like momma always says its better to be safe than sorry.

If the trigger voltage from the flash unit is down around 5 or 6 volts, you could experience a mess of problems with the Safe Sync adapter. Been there, done that.

Skip if i tested the voltage right it was about 26 volts when the flash was fired

That voltage should be absolutely no problem if you directly connect the flash to the camera. Hopefully the voltage is high enough to make the circuitry in the Wein Safe Sync work properly. If you have any grief firing the flash, though, the first thing to try would be a conventional (connection only, no intermediate circuitry) hotshoe-to-PC adapter.

If you can return the Wein Safe Sync to the store for a refund and get a conventional adapter, you'd save a bundle of cash that you didn't need to spend.

You should be fine i use it to trigger 600ws monohead, connected to a 7D. I've been using this since my EOS3 days.
