Ive decided on getting a SLIK tripod, i really dont want to spend more than 130-150.

There are few option.

The 700DX http://www.amazon.com …/B0002EXF38/ref=de_a_smtd (external link). At 139. Weights 7 pounds .

The 400DX. http://www.amazon.com …F8&qid=1279065704&sr=1-10 (external link). At 129 . Weights 5.6 pounds. Max load 9.9 pounds

And the 500DX http://www.samys.com …+with+4-Way+Quick+Release (external link). At 129. Weights 5.47 pounds. Max load 5-10 pounds.

What are my other options in this price range. I am using a T1i, largest lens at the moment is a 70-200. Might get a 400mm in the future.

Thank you. :D

I would go for the 500dx, I think it's the best comprimise as it's comparable in spec to the 400dx but has a bit extra height and it weighs significantly less than the 700dx

I think your right, anyone know why amazon doesn't have the 500dx with the head, its just the legs.

I have the 700dx and it's a beast of a pod. And can't beat it for the price. Honestly, should just go with the legs and shop around for the right head. It's much more important than the legs.

The amazon listing for the 500dx with a pan and tilt head is from Adorama, if you go directly through Adorama you get free shipping for a total of 129.95.

A lot of the time buyers want to reuse their old tripod heads or pair the tripod up with a more highly specified ball head etc.

Awesome thanks, I noticed on adorama the picture doesn't show the leg paddings, however the one on samys site does show with padding.

I'd contact Helen Oster (from Adorama) here on POTN and confirm it with her before you order.

WHAT!! I have the $40 version and it was perfectly fine for my 3 week trip to China. I still use it as the travel pod. Yes, it's no comparison to my SLIK 700 but can't beat it for the price.

So, do you have one? or just judging the item by its cover?

25 seconds, portrait mode. How's this different between a $40 pod versus $400?
