Wireless remote - Canon 40D problem

I recently bought the wireless remote for Canon 40D from the POTN store.
However I'm unable to get it to work!

This is what I'm doing.
I connect the receiver to the camera.
I start the receiver and the camera.
I extend the antenna on the transmitter.
The camera is set to 'M' mode.

When I half click on the transmitter button, a green light comes up.
When I click on the button, a red light comes up, but the camera
doesnt do anything. Its not taking any pictures.

Am I missing something? Is there any setting on the 40D that could be hampering this? or I probably got a faulty piece?

Could be weak batteries or a difference in codes for the transmitter and reciever if you have the type that can be changed.

In most cases the red light is the "on" light, this should be lit all the time, the green light is signal confirm or the AF confirm light (this seems to be working).
If the red is intermittant then it might be a weak reciever battery.

the red light in the receiver toggles on and off when I toggle it.
So it seems to be having enough battery.

When I click the transmitter, a green light in the receiver too comes on sometimes. But thats about it.

Have you checked the transmission codes, just change them so they are the same.
When the green light comes on, does the camera auto focus ? or does nothing happen.

Have you got the camera in program mode with the af switch on the lens turned to manual focus, it won't trigger the shutter unless it's in focus.

The transmission codes seem to be the same.
When the green light comes on, the camera focussed about a couple of times (though it did not click). The rest of thetime, nothing happened.
Camera is in 'M' mode. Lens is set to Auto focus.

I will try getting a new battery for the receiver to ensure that is not the issue.

When you say you are connecting it to the camera, you are connecting it on the side of the camera correct? Some of those remotes have a hotshoe mount and previous users have confused that with the remote hookup. Silly to ask, but I gotta.

I had problems with my "no-name" transmitter/receiver and it turned out to be weak batteries. The batteries which came with the unit were cheap Chinese imports with dubious life expectancy. A Radio Shack or some other battery specialty store should be ble to check the batteries and tell you if they are at fault.

I had similar issues with my remote and my 1D mkII at a Barrel Racing event last weekend. Just bought brand new energizer lithium batteries for both trans/rcvr a few hours prior.... If i were within 15 foot of my camera it would fire, but if i was on the other side of the arena (30-40 ft) it would NOT fire. And then even a couple of times, standing right next to my camera, it again would not fire. So mine was intermitent problems, but lost a LOT of shots because of it as I had this particular combo set up at the 3rd barrel, as i was using my 2nd camera handheld near the gate to watch barrels 1 & 2... So i still got shots, just not as many 3rd barrel shots as i SHOULD have

What model were you using ?

it doesn't have a model # on it.... I remember that when i ordered it, i got an email stating it wasn't the 1 listed on the POTN store at the time, but the newer "updated" model. can't find that email now, but its the micnova brand.


*** found that email... its the MICNOVA model# MQ-NW1


Although i did just read that if i buy a $30 cable, i can actually use my Cybersync's to remotely fire my camera.... only problem is no half press for "wake up" so I would have to set my camera for no sleep mode. suppose that would kill the battery huh?

Yes..I'm connecting it to the side of the camera. Thx for confirming.
The symptoms seem to load to weak batteries since the behavior is not predictable.
I havent got a chance to pick new ones up due to a hectic week. Will try to do it over the weekend.

Had to do with faulty batteries. Got new ones from Radioshack and worked like a charm!!
I'm so happy right now!
