after my original g9 died on me (lens stopped retracting) and a short stint with a panny zs3 which i never really enjoyed, i got another g9 this week. i primarily use the g9 strapped to the front of my camelbak for mtn bike riding pix. i've bought a couple of small cases for it (one a grey canon, the other a small lowepro neoprene thing) but have never found one to my liking. i'm looking for suggestions for the smallest case that will fit the g9 and really not much else. the neoprene lp case i have is close to the mark but is just a little too small, and i don't think they make this series anymore. i like to have the g9 on the front strap so i can get it out quickly with one hand, shoot and then put it right back just as quickly. any ideas would be appreciated, and i'm really glad to have the g9 back...hopefully this one doesn't die on me....:)

You might want to check out the Lowepro Ridge 20, it looks like the inside dimensions might accommodate the G9, if not a little tightly.

Dimensions (W x H x D) 4.19 x 2.83 x 1.67 in. / 106.4 x 71.9 x 42.5mm (G9 size)

Ridge 20
Size(Interior):
2.6W X 1.4D X 4.7H in./
6.5 X 3.5 X 12 cm

Size(Exterior):
3W X 2D X 5.1H in./
7.5 X 5 X 13 cm

If that is too tight, then move up to the Ridge 30;

Size(Interior):
3W X 1.4D X 5.1H in./
7.5 X 3.5 X 13 cm

Size(Exterior):
3.3W X 2D X 5.5H in./
8.5 X 5 X 14 cm

Also, you might be interested to know Richard Franiec's Grip for the G9 is available again for a limited time right now. I never got one for my G9, because I also use it in the Canon underwater case. However, you might like the extra grip while on your mtn bike?

thanks. i think the tamrac 5689 pro compact digital might work....specifically designed for the g series, looks like it is a new model. found a nice m-rock (mesa verde) as well, but it looks like more than the minimalist protection i'm looking for. oh, i have the u/w case as well now, came in a package with the g9. can't wait to take it underwater! i'll need to read up on what settings to use with the case.

I got the G11 a couple of months back, but kept my G9 mostly because I got the u/w case for it last year. I don't scuba dive, but we kayak and play around at the beach. I'll be taking it and the G11 out to my brother-in-law's campsite today. They camp next to an inland lake so they can play in the water - Sea-doo related stuff - as well as swimming near the shore.

I have the tamrac 5689. It is low profile.

This worked well for my G9, fit was perfect, padding was not excessive. Cheap and does the job, not something commonly said for photo accessories. Has a belt hoop if you need it.

groovy--that is one of the two cases i've tried. it's a very tight fit, meaning the g9 snags on it (hotshoe) every time you take the camera out or put it back in....that's what i'm using now in fact, but might try the little tamrac to see if it's a better fit. thanks.

When I had a G9 I bought a leather case/battery package from Canon. It's a tight fit. Works fine.

It even fits my G11 with the articulating screen.

I sold my G9 a few weeks ago, but when I had it I used the LowePro DPods 50 neoprene case. I liked it much more than the Ridge suggested above because the DPods has a velcro lip instead of zippers. This makes for a much quicker draw, and you can do it with one hand.
