Need a portable Softbox for engagement shoots--on location

I am in dire need of a portable softbox that is durable, will work w/ my 580ex flash, and can be used on location w/o too much of a hassle. I'm also unsure of what size I should get? I want a happy medium, one that isn't too big and one that isn't too small.

I've researched some models online and only got confused as to which model I should get.

Here are models I looked at:

A) Photoflex XS Litedome 12"x16 kit. It is very small, but ultra portable. Only question is, will it be enough for me to use on 2 people.

B) Photoflex Medium Litedome 24"x32. Anyone have any experience w/ this? Is it a good size to carry around for on location shoots?

C) Alienbees medium softboxes. Can anyone tell me if this is compatible with using a 580ex flash to fire into it? From what I've gathered, it is only compatible with the alienbee flash guns AB400, aB800, etc. Am I correct?

Thanks for all the help.

I'm using the Cheetah Qbox 24 and like it a lot. http://www.cheetahstand.com …38/Cheetah-Qbox-24/Detail (external link)

Here's the video of how it sets up and breaks down: http://www.cheetahstand.net …6/01/new-qbox24-video-up/ (external link)

Here is the larger thread on it: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=817726

I just bought one off of eBay made by Alsmov, or something like that. 24"x24" double diffused sb, mounting ring and adjustable mount for $100. Everything but the stand. I've been pretty happy with it in it's limited use thus far.

I have several of the small Photoflex boxes. The light boxes themselves are decent, pretty easy to set up. The problem is with the hardware. The small screws that attach to the knobs break very easily. Really bad design.

I have a Cheetah Qbox sitting on my doorstep waiting for me to get home from work - the longer thread on here convinced me they should be getting my money - great product and great support. I'll be using mine with a 580 exII, and for general portrait use outdoors

Thanks for the suggestion! I've just ordered the kit and I'm really glad to know that it comes with grids and the whole nine yards! Can't wait to test this baby out w/ my 580exII flash.

Anyone know of a portable light stand that is easy for lugging around?

Thanks

I think you'll be happy with your choice. It's a nice piece of equipment, IMO.

I just ordered mine about 5 minutes ago. Can't wait!
For the light stand, I purchased the Impact Heavy Duty 9.5' Air cushioned at B&H. It was highly recommended by everyone. I know it's not as compact as most of us want but I'm pretty sure it'll do a great job for indoor/outdoor use.

Time to get out and shoot. ;-)a

If you want to try to get away with low-cost, I saw one on eBay for $49. I doubt it's as good as some of the others, but I'm betting it's better than nothing. You can always upgrade once you get more $$$ (or Euros or Yen or whatever).

LOL! It might not win any awards but it does show how the softbox sets up and packs up.
