Is that 10-70 mm range just too important? Or can you do it all with that white barreled shotgun of a lens?

Depends on what you shoot.

Personally? No, I couldn't do it all with only a 70-200.

I think I love candid shots, portraits, and long range sports the most and rarely need to do large groups or landscapes. But it is bulky and I guess I am holding out (and saving coins) for the new 24-70 if it ever comes up!

I just got my 70-200mm sigma lens and I already want another walk around lens.

I am looking to get a tamron 17-50mm I wish I could afford the canon 17-55mm lens

You can do Landscapes with a 70-200 but your results will be limited as will the types of scenery that can be rendered effectively.

This (external link) was shot with a 70-200 @ 200mm but the elements in the frame are what make it work.

However, something like this (external link) really needs UWA to give a sense of perspective.

Very nice! I love that landscape picture. I guess to me I love being a photographer who tries to stay out of the action and tries to snipe the shot!

I get what you are saying, but there are subjects that demand to be engaged. I cant imagine not having options beyond 70-200.

Never. Which isn't to say I couldn't live with only one lens... it just wouldn't be a 70-200.

I'm considering only using a DSLR to shoot sports, surf, wildlife, and/or candids. So possibly.

As you seem to be using a 7D (crop sensor), I imagine you would be limited with just that specific lens. I find that the 24-105L and 70-200L compliment each other very nicely and would recommend the combo to anyone, if they can afford it. You can get some fairly wide shots at the 24mm end, even with a crop sensor.

Yes. I use ALL focal lengths from 10 to 200mm at the typical events I shoot (weddings, B'Nai Mitzvot, parties)

If someone said "Hey, take a shot of this group of me and my four best friends from grade school!" and my shortest length was 70mm, I'd be in BIG trouble.
