I've seen the sample pages for this lens and so far I like what I see. However, some folks are saying that it tends to be soft wide open. So I'd like to get a feel for what some users here think of it. I mainly want it for it's big aperture and want to know if its worth the purchase for that reason.

Thanks...

Corser,

I happen to be a big fan of the 28 f/1.8, BUT since you already have an f/2.8 lens that covers the 28mm FL I doubt you'll get a lot of use from the 28mm. Probably oughta look at an f/1.4 lens :) .

My $.02...

I wouldn't call it soft. It's certainly not stellar, but it's perfectly fine. You'll probably get better images from the 24-70, though, so I would only get it place if you're looking specifically for a smaller or faster lens and don't want a 24 or 35L.

It's a great lens at f/2. I almost shoot it exclusively at f/2. As said, it's not amazing at 1.8 but usable. Focus and build quality are excellent though. I still prefer it at similar focal lengths to my Tamron 17-50, and it's a tie with the 35mm macro.

Some of my lenses focus beyond infinity...!

Yer im currently in this situation as well!

I have a 50mm 1.4 at the moment and on my 40D its a bit cramped. I'm considering selling the 50mm to get the 28 1.8 but im not sure about the image quality compared to the 50 1.4 (which is awesome!). i tend to shoot in low light situations too so the 1.8 is handy

sorry to partially hijack :P

hopefully we get some good answers!
