Hi everyone,

I'm gearing up for a trip to Glacier National Park and I have some decisions to make. I mainly shoot with a Rebel Xt (350) and Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 (non-VC). I do own a few other lenses (100mm macro, 55-250, nifty fifty), but I'm using this trip as an excuse to rent a few lenses. I think I'm going to rent a Canon 10-22, 70-200 f/4L IS, and 1.4 Teleconverter.

Here's where I'm going crazy.... I own a Hoya "Moose" Warming Polarizer that I use on the Tamron. It will fit on the 70-200 but not on the 10-22. I've read some articles that say that a regular polarizer is better than a warming polarizer. So, here are my questions:

1) Should I buy a regular circular polarizer or is the Moose warming polarizer comparable? The B+W Kaesemann MRC looks really good.

2) If I buy a polarizer, should I get a 67mm so that it fits on my Tamron (and the 70-200), or should I buy the 77mm and get step-up rings so that it can be used on all of the lenses? I usually use a lens hood and I know that I won't be able to with the step up ring. I'm torn because I don't currently own any 77mm lenses, but after renting the 10-22, perhaps I'll want to buy one.

3) There's also the option of renting a mid-grade polarizer with the 10-22. If I do this, I can use the regular polarizer with the wide angle and the Moose with the 17-50 and 70-200. I can then wait until after the trip and compare to see which polarizer I like better.

AARRGGHH!! Please help me make up my mind!!!
Thanks!
Seth

I dont know that I would buy a polarizer for a lens that I didn't own. Generally its nice to have the bigger filter so that you can use step down rings to fit all your gear, but unless you are certain you will eventually buy a lens with 77mm filters I think I would rent rather than buy.

Keep in mind that the 10-22 will have a very wide expanse of sky that it can capture in the frame, and the effectivity of any polarizer is dependent upon angle of the sky relative to the sun position. So with 10mm you will have a segment of sky where the polarizer is very effective, and other portions of the sky where the polarizer is not effective...so your sky will be darker in places and lighter in places, and many pepole find this to be disturbing/ 'unnatural' in a photo. You might learn, after spending lots of money, that a CPL for the 10-22 simply "isn't worth having"!
