The local Black's Photo stores are running sales on some tripods of the brands Fidelity and Soligor.

$30 for full sized tripods seems very cheap to me. Anyone know anything about these models?

There's also a Soligor T170BK tripod at $40. Maybe a better purchase?

My heaviest gear is an XSi with a 55-250 IS and perhaps a YN-467 flash.

TBH...save your money. I hate to say it, but these things make Amvona tripods look stellar in comparison. Save your money for something better...

I agree. If you buy one of those you most likely be posting soon thereafter complaining about your cheap pos tripod.

Because they are likely to fall or because they offer limited camera movement?

I know very little but it would be nice to know why I'd be better off "saving my money".

It will not be as stable as a better tripod. It will be cheaply made. The controls will most likely be clunky and not very precise. Will it support your gear, yes. As you progress in your photography will you grow to hate your cheap tripod, yes. If it comes with some type of quick release system that will be its weakest point. Also, don't use it with the center column extended, as it will certainly not be very stable when fully extended. Ballheads are generally preferred for their ease of use and range of motion.
