I like it, although I personally would crop more of the street out. I looked at some of your other stuff. Very creative! Great lighting on the cars and models.

togish, not bad for a first attempt, but a proper sky replacement would do wonders for it.

speaking of sky replacements,

what is the typically preferred method of sky replacements for the photogs here?

I often have a hell of a time dealing with trees. I've been using alpha-channel blending to a moderate amount of success, but I believe there's an easier, more stream-lined, and more effective way.

Input?

Yeah, I've been playing around with it and I had to created a layer mask from the trees. It made getting the trees right easier, but then I had to manually brush all the rest in around the home, etc. Not a very 'quick' way to do it but it came out pretty good.

The more I learn about layer masks, blend modes, selection tool, and alpha channels the easier it will be, I just need to learn a little more. I think there has to be an easier way too, or, maybe I'm expecting too much from the software. LOL

This last one I played with I used the sky from a different image and the sky image was a lot larger and I could not get the two images to line up, so I just moved the sky image around until I found the sky I liked and then masked the rest out. I'm sure there is a simple way to get two different images to size up the same but I'm not sure how.

Here is my first try at sky replacement I attempted on an exterior shoot from a while back:

PS- the agent wanted this home shot from the gate to show the gated driveway. I have another angle that shows the front better but I did not try the sky replacement on that one. Also, that angle was not shot from the gate, so I thought this one would be better to try it out.

Very nice Tyler! Sometimes I can't stop kicking myself for never learning PS earlier. I know what to look for and everything but the know-how is severely lacking.

How long did you take guys to get to where you are now with your PS skills?

I have owned PS for about 3 1/2 years now. When I first got into this I was using a Corel program. Once I got PS I thought I was hot stuff when I learned about Highlights/Shadows. LOL

As for REALLY learning PS.....I just looked up the email and I was officially introduced to Luminosity Masks, Alpha Channels, and a lot of other things in Sept of 2010. Michael James http://digitalcoastimage.com/portfolio/index.html (external link) started mentoring me at that time. I have since taken his technique and improved upon it to better suit my tastes. I like what he produces but his technique has a lot of steps and takes a lot of time. Through playing around and reading online (and books) I have learned to expand on what I know, but mostly from playing around with the software.

I also learned about blend modes and other stuff from Michel James that got me investigating those things as well. He taught me how to use these things to duplicate his workflow. I just took that information and played around with it and came up with my own techniques.

So, to answer your question, I've been working on these things for about 1 year and 3 months. Before then, I did not know anything (or very little) about luminosity masks, alpha channels, selection tool, blend modes, layer masks, etc.

I finally got the Lynda tutorials for Lightroom and PS. Going through LR Essentials now then Advanced. Then it is on to PS. So I have fumbled my way through PS for a while knowing I did not know what I was doing.
