I'm looking into using strobe techniques.

yes, me too. Getting ready to pick up a Tokina 16-28 and have been checking out the images in this thread while thinking about how to light the interiors with speedlights.

Anyone want to throw out some pointers?

Check out Scott Hargis' online RE lighting course. It's well worth the $. I learned a ton in the first 2 episodes alone.

Hi guys, I haven't made an appearance here for some while now... I've really come up with a nice workflow - intra and post production.

I've come to a point where I am really pushing the limits of my gear. All have been shot with a Canon 7D, Sigma 10-20mm, and Yong Nuo transmitters/receivers/flashes. No modifiers except for some gaffers tape have been used.

What limits do you feel you have reached?

What limits do you feel you have reached?

My system of lighting spaces has hit an upper bound in terms of square-footage. Large buildings with particularly high ceilings or deep dimensions are hard to light for me. This is only due to my relatively low light output. I am using 6 speed-lights currently.

I often find that the barrel distortion makes my life overly difficult in some situations; my experiences with renting nicer glass in the past has shown to rid of these issues. I constantly want to shift down in my photos, however I don't have that capability beyond correcting for vertical distortion in post.

I wouldn't call the camera body a limiting factor. The only issue I have with the 7D is the selection (or lack thereof) of quality wide-angle glass to mount to it.

My cheap trigger solution is doing just fine. I have had a few malfunctions here and there, but for the price of what I pay, it is't worth griping about.

Thanks for that CCCC, it's much as I'd thought tbh

Surely Full Frame is the way to go regarding lens angle? But on that note, I feel a few of those shots above would have been nicer with a slightly longer focal length, so you get more of the 'action' and less of the open floor and ceiling.

This is excellent advice. I was using a similar setup - 7D, a canon 10-22 (a *very* underrated lens, IMO), and speed lights. I found a used 5D mkII, and now I'm using that with a 17-40L and a 24mm TS-E and I have to say that I really avoid much below 20-24mm anymore. I don't need to show all three walls in a big room... I just need to imply them. Feels way more natural to me.
