Most of the photographs posted above are a mix between ambient and artificial lighting (strobes).

I've been following this thread for a while, lots of great work. Wondering what kind of modifiers are used most often in this kind of work?

I did a few interiors shots a few weeks ago and tried bouncing speedlights with mixed results. One room with purple walls was very difficult since I needed to bounce off the ceiling. I was able to hide the strobe behind a chair but there is a big hot spot on the ceiling. I was actually wishing I knew where i put my stofen. The room was large with low ceilings and windows on only one wall. Pain in the neck.

With the number of posts on this thread, it seems like there should be a separate forum for real estate/architecture. When I began to expand into real estate, I looked here and was surprised (and disappointed) that there was not a dedicated forum - especially given some of the more specialized (and rather lightly viewed) fora for other fields.

How about it, mods. This thread is too long to be of any use and real estate is a growing photographic specialty.

The main forum admin is redesigning the sight right now. I haven't read the full thread but I would expect that he will be adding a number of sub forums. We should make a request.

I thought I might be undervaluing my services. I have only done two of these types of shoots. I was charging $200 to do probably about 2 hours worth of photography and then a hour or so of processing. But from what I've seen locally the "Real Estate Photographers" are charging about the same for the same amount of time.

They wanted me, they had me setup to go and get the photos. They were going to have a check in the office for me but because of company policy they can't pay without an invoice. I offered to email her and bring a copy of an invoice with me when I picked up the check and that's when the Red flags started popping up. Can't pay that day, won't be able to pay 60 - 120 days after invoice, need photos right away... Doesn't sound like they thought things through.

We'll see what they do. If a local "Real Estate Photographer" wants payment right away and they are charging $300 - $600 for the shoot then they might find a way to pay me a little quicker.

prices are market based, generally the bigger the market, the bigger the checks.

I would say your pricing is inline with my small to mid size market.

That sounds like my area. Small to mid-sized.

don't skimp on adding in travel time too. I live in a small market but do a lot of business in a nearby town that is on the small end of mid size. I do not charge travel time to that market but will anywhere else.

well, If I can get away with it. :P

edit: wait, you're in Atlanta ? ? ? ? Not really small IMO.

Right there with ya. i'm 60 miles west of Raleigh, 60 miles north of Charlotte, and 25 miles from (mid market) Greensboro/Winston Salem.

BTW, your contact page says you live in Chicago. Big brother, i mean google probably doesn't like that.

Edit: it's your Q&A page not contact.

If they want the photos BEFORE they make payment, then they are extremmely unprofressional and I would walk away and let them pay for another company..

Thats actually more common in RE photography than you realize. Besides who is gonna pay you BEFORE you actually do the work..I have never gotten paid for anything before I actually did it...;)

I would have been perfectly happy getting paid afterwards but when she told me 60 - 120 days that was the deal breaker I think. 2 weeks... 3 weeks TOPS!

But what is their Normal policy for paying vendors..if that is what they use for all other vendors, realistically, why should you be paid on a different schedule. If its not, then yeah, see ya...;).

From the few locals I've looked at last night they all require payment before they deliver photos. One guy I emailed told me he gets paid the same day. I shoot weddings the same way. If I don't have full payment after the wedding then bride doesn't get any photos until the check clears.

Is the realtor themselves paying, or is the office cutting the checks..if it's the realtor, then yeah, there is a lot more leeway in payment terms..Weddings are a different animal..:D a lot more time involved, less leeway for errors and mistakes etc...

Those are amazing shots. Very clean & well composed.

However I noticed a bit of barrel-cushion distortion on all of those images, especially on the 1st one.
