After struggling to find good stock skys, I remembered duh, I do a lot of landscape photography. I started going back and finding random skies from my landscapes over the last couple years. The colors are rich and saturated and glaring specular highlights disappear. I have clients that rave about my exteriors on such days. When the sky is grey, I concentrate on the house and minimize the sky as much as possible by framing and cropping. That lets me get the "giant softbox" quality with out showing lots of bare white sky. And, if there are clouds within an overcast sky, I work to include detail from them. Sometimes boosting blue saturation in the sky will bring in some color I didn't know was there. Sep 23, 2016 13:16 | #8528 Trying to replace them with cloudier skies to find a balance between pure grey to add just a little texture. Is this one realistic enough? Do you notice how rich and deep the colors on the house look? That and the lack of specular highlights has a lot to do with making it look unrealistic. The sky you have now fits the light on the house better. If it were mine, I would crop to just above the roof line and a bit off the bottom as well minimize the sky and make more of the house itself and the gentle light on it. Yes, I like the look a lot more. I think I was trying to be way too dramatic at first. Image hosted by forum (815544) © seaLere [SHARE LINK] THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. Nobody else is thinking about how these weren't the real skies, and I think a majority of photographers wouldn't notice either. I like the drama that they add, and any of your newer variations work well too. I guarantee any realtor would be thrilled with these.
