During WW2 there were more bombs dropped in the 3 year attack on Malta that there were on London for the whole war. Valetta was almost flattened, but you wouldn't know that now as almost all of the buildings have been rebuilt as they were originally. One that was left is the Valetta Opera House. It's now an open air opera house, next to the new parliament building.

The old Bighi Hospital, noe being refurbished for who knows what? The lift was built in Victorian times so that wounded sailors could be lifted wuickly up to the hospital

And the old Bighi Steps, 104 of them and we as 11 or 12 year olds used to have races down from by the hospital to the RN jetty to catch the RN ferry to Valetta Old Customs House
