too much barrel distortion - I have a 14mm on a ff and he's right. I need a different lens, but whaddya-gonna-do?

Just keep in mind that a 14mm on a xxD is going to be a hair over 22mm effectively. So an 10-22mm will appear as 16-35mm FF equivelent.

4 shots vertical panoramic - it is not optimal because it was a casual set of shots - I mean if I was doing this for business I would have got more frames which would have allowed me to adjust the distortion better. Anyways I thought it was kind of a neat shot and wanted to share. This is the WIPRO secondary Headquarters in Bangalore India.

When I see some of these images, I question what little I know about photography.

If this is straight out of camera, with the lens kit, I would think you need a shutter speed that would have blurred everyone walking around. If not a long exposure, it surely would need an ISO that would have shown some noise.

Do you mind me asking your settings?

I compare my photography to my golf game. It only takes a couple of good shots to get me to try again.

I mean, a 14mm lens doesn't by it's very nature give you barrel distortion, but a poorly designed 14mm does. If you had a 14mm that was well corrected, would you still feel that way?

it exaggerates perspective, plain and simple - it makes things look bigger than they are. RE photography isn't about fitting EVERYTHING in the scene, it's about showing the house in the best possible light and showing the 'feel' for the house as if you were there. some angles do this better than others - a 14mm will make it look cavernous. 16mm on FF is as wide as I'd ever go, and only then in dire circumstances. the 17ts is my lens of choice, but I use it on a 1d3, and I still find myself cropping extra stuff out.

Interesting to know. I own a 14mm... but I'm on a 1.6x crop. Kind of hard to imagine 14mm on FF.

Yeah, it's definitely pretty nice. I can't really imagine having a strong desire for anything much wider. It'd possibly be useful for the rare scene, but, note the word rare there. :p I think my dream rig would be to upgrade to FF and to move to the TS-E 24 II and 45, and to keep the 135L. All else goes.

What are the rest of you guys using to correct barrel distortion?

It is usually very mild with my lens, but when I do have some obvious distortion I use Lens Correction. Just curious who using DPP, or LR, or PS, and what your process looks like.
