during a shoot today we had the above flick up on our 20d.some photo's were ok(and the chimped as ok)a little while later they showed up with "corrupt data" and a smaller thumbnail. We only lost 1 photo out of 180(phew).this was on a different card to the one that showed the corrupt data files.the card with the corrupt data files downloaded ok.absolutly lost to the reason why as we have took hundreds of photo's on a 20d and 10d without problem's.is this a one off?have alien's landed?has kinga from big brother taken over the world?(love the fact you american's don't know her)

going to bed confused and confused.

You might add some specifics.

What kind of CF card? How old was it? Had it ever acted up previously? When was the last time that it had a complete format in the computer?

What file type was the camera recording (RAW, JPEG fine, etc.)? Were you shooting any continuously?

I assume that the battery was normal. Did this happen early in the shoot, or late, or middle?

the card is a transcend 512mb and it was used in raw.it was reformatted in the camera before the shoot.it was towards the end of the the day and not shooting continuosly.the card is about 12 months old.the battery is the original canon one and was not really low.

I find I have this problem if I inexplicably shut the camera's power off becore the camera is finished writing the file. It happened to me alot when I first got the camera, and now once in a blue moon...I attribute this to the fact that I'm starting to learn to leave the power on!!! lol

Hope this is the same for you. easy to fix! :D

So, apparently the card has never had a complete format in the computer. That tells us something.

I believe that the only time I have every lost an image on a CF card is when I did something stupid, like open the CF door and pull out the card when it was still writing.

So, when was the last time that the CF card had a complete format on the computer, and what was the resulting capacity at the time?

There are some known some issues when using a lexar 80x 512mb cf card with canon cameras. Maybe transcend card came from the same 'source' as lexar? Do a search and you should be able to find the thread that talks about the lexar card.

I have a viking 512MB compact Flash card that I used on my 300D and it used to give me CRC errros I returned it to Viking they gave me a new one and it did the same thing. Until they advised me (I don't remember what Forum) to format the card before each use. It had been working fine until the past 2 or 3 days I have been shooting RAW with my 10D and it finally took a crap. It started giving me corrupted files and locking up the camera with Err 2 and now I can't even format the card in windows. So I'm going to return it to Viking once more since it has a 5 year warranty. We'll see how that goes I'm waiting for my new 1GIG Sandisk Ultra II to come in see how that works. Until now I can't shoot that was my only BIG good card every other card I have are 128 or 64MB. :(

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I had an issue like this with my new 350D just yesterday. I shot several pictures at the church dinner last night using a Sandisk Ultra II 1 GB CF card. Everything seemed OK with the pictures. I was looking at them with the camera before we left. I got home, took the CF card out of the camera, put it in my Sandisk CF reader and it did not show the new pictures. I put the CF card back in the camera and pressed the Play button. It just showed a bunch of corrupt icons.

Ya I have the same problem, I have formatted the card twice and that does not fix it so I called sandisk ,and they are paying for postage for me to get it back to them and they will send me new one.

Since formatting my CF card after that one time, I have not any further issues like this.
