For tracking, it's definitely not as easy as my 7D makes it. The 7D excels in this arena and makes life easy. The high FPS and superior AF makes tracking a running dog a breeze. The 5D2 takes a little more work so I need to anticipate movement a little more. The 70-200mm is pretty much my go-to lens when I am working with fast moving objects and performs wonderfully, even on the 5D Mark II (I think the lens helps out a lot). Overall, I am satisfied with it. Again, it doesn't do as well as the faster bodies, but once you understand it, it's definitely possible. I've used the T1i for sporting events before so I kind of got use to slower AF and FPS.

For stationary shots, the 5D2 is a huge improvement. I typically do indoor shots without flash, so the higher ISO capability is excellent. I shoot above ISO 3200 pretty often indoors and the FF sensor makes for easier noise clean-up in post.

Are you considering jumping to FF?

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I'm absolutely committed to moving to full frame. I’m so looking forward to it that I dreamt I was shooting with a full frame camera the other night…not a good sign. :p Ideally, I’d like to have a two-body solution and keep either my 50D or upgrade to a refurb’d 7D for use with the 70-200mm in action shots, and use the FF body with the 50mm or 24-70 mounted for still portraiture (is there such a thing with dogs? lol).

Thanks again.

You really can't go wrong w/FF. The IQ for portraiture is tremendous. Report back when you decide to get it later on, I'd love to hear your thoughts! :)
