hahahaha oh yeah I haven't noticed your gears.. but I do noticed that you started that thread..how come you went back or switched to uhhmm well canon?

EDIT: I might be wrong, but that thread was started by you due to the increasing numbers of nikon threads? so you have always been a canon shooter?

I have always shot Canon. I started the thread for the Nikon folks so that the thread had a moderator presence from the beginning.

It should be coming with the new forum software. It is better to do it right, than do it fast.

Awesome news Skip.

we're all there Mike. We just keep losing some of the salient info in the midst of other posts (photos, questions etc).

If you find that there are some links, posts, or specific items that you would like to keep track of feel free to add them to your first post in the thread (post number 2).

what made POTN great, is firstly the community and secondly that its a one brand forum. ok and thirdly, the mods here are great ^^ when you get multiple brand forums, you get threads like D700 v 5D2 and so on. and YES, I know we are all grow up man and can talk about it in a proper manner but its just a matter of time to get folks into arguments. There are very few multi brand forums that work. you don't have muscle and JDM cars in one forum. They usually have two separate communities. Also just look at the sheer size of folks registering here. They are all canon users. non of them registers to discuss nikon here, so why change that ^^

I've always been supportive of this idea. I've been a member of many forums across all sorts of hobbies and POTN is the best, hands down and it's the people and the mods. Even Nikon vs Canon discussions are quite civilized, nothing like other VS sort of threads on other forums. The one brand thing has nothing to do with it really, it's just the first place Canon users find, and even if they switch they keep coming back.

There are many Nikoners on here already. There are many 5D2 vs D700 threads on here already.

The Mods here are great and they will not be changing just because of 1 forum added. If new members come trying to start a flame war I doubt they will be here long.

I'd like to think of this place as a photography forum. I know there's a big section dedicated to gear, but there are also plenty of other section that has nothing to do with gear. I would also think that the demographic is a little different than car forums however I realize how iffy things can get. (FM, dpreview, etc.)

I think if properly moderated, it can work. Keep the brands separate. That's what FM does and while I don't like that place, it doesn't get too crazy with cross-brand debates/arguments/flame wars.

well to an extent I agree with this one... so to the mods, please create a STEALTHY NIKON subforum hahaha...
on a serious note, a proper lay out of subforums and members discipline I hope would make it possible.

something like: when clicking the NEW POSTS link, there will be an option to include the Nikon subforum in your search or not. so as not to pollute your search with noink/other brand related posts

maybe its the best because it only caters on one brand

Perhaps brand vs brand threads should be discouraged, or at least heavily moderated. I don't personally care what brand anyone uses, they're tools used to do a variety of jobs, different jobs require different tools.

I love those Jelly Donut Man cars, there's sooo much leg room!

hmm..now what shall I write here...

I would have to say brand vs. brand should be discouraged or, maybe the OTHERBRAND subforum should just accomodate those comparison and accept the fact that this is still mainly a canon forum.
