Hi all,

Count me in as well when it happens - no rush as all good things are worth waiting for!!!

Just hope the usual friendly nature of the forum continues, not to mention a lot of helpful people on here.

Mark

Unless Pekka is edging towards the 'dark-side' I vote we leave it as it is ;)

Fred Miranda seems to be flexible with other brands but, I do notice the snobbery that goes on there. Just sayin' :-|

There's snobbery over there not b/c of multi-brands, but b/c of the people. As far as the gear forums, other than a stray thread here and there, they remain pretty distinct.

Fan-boyism is inevitable when you have a dedicated section for a brand. We see that here all the time. It's silly, but it's also human nature. I try not to get caught up in it.

The difference between FM and here is that we have great mods here. It's like a zoo over there at FM.

This is a photography forum. first and foremost. As long as the community stay as-is, I really don't foresee any issues.

I'm glad there will be a sub forum for other brands. It's been needed for a long time. I think it's a great step for POTN to grow and increase it's population. I agree. The mods and everyone here are very friendly. That's why I stay here over any other forum.

Just to clarify: With next big update of POTN I have made it so that multiple brands are easily catered for and in such a way that current forums are not "taken over" in any way. I also reserve the right to exclude any or all other brands if we get brand spamming around forums and they can not adjust to POTN spirit and community feel. Please do not ask for details as they will not be given at this point :)

I totally respect that. POTN is the best camera forum available, it's nice to be able to have some additional options without losing the reason this forum works so well.

That sounds sensible :) I've worked in software development for more than a decade, Java with PHP on the side, PM me if I can help with testing or anything.

Can I just add, as a Canon owner, I welcome anyone who can talk sensibly about cameras no matter what they own!

And thanks to the current members and the Mods/Admins, we have a great forum with many different makes and models being used. And 99% of the topics involve grown up discussion about the +/- of each.

If the current plan works out, that would be even better so long as we don't lose the feel of this place.

Thats good to know. I'd really be sorry to see this fantastic Canon users resource watered down.

Cheers,

I'm a Nikon shooter. I peruse all the forums (FM, Nikonians, Nikon Cafe, PhotoCamel, et. al.) but this is the one I really enjoy. I lurk here daily. I rarely post (this might even be my first) but I enjoy reading and seeing the photos posted here.
If there could be a Nikon forum with the attitude prevalent in the Canon forums here, I would be ecstatic.
Thanks for considering it.

love the idea! I've been to the other Nikon based forums and don't like them nearly as much.

It should be coming with the new forum software. It is better to do it right, than do it fast.

Okay, its been a while :p

But Pekka is still only one person. When he's ready to run it, he will, but not before.

I'm certain July wasn't the first time he thought of it
