This is a butterfly that I took a photo of. I have edited the photo by removing the background as it was a distracting window frame. I also adjusted the brightness as well. This was taken with the P mode on the 350D, at 55mm. It started life as a CR2 before the editing.

I just found out that it is a "Small Tortoise Shell Butterfly"

im guessing that when u were in P mode that the shutter speed was below the mm of your lens that u had on the camera when u took this picture. the picture is blurry and cant do much about it. But how u deleted the background on it was very good.

the golden rule that "I" believe in is that dont shoot below the mm of the lens u are using. the chance of camera shake is less. others believe u can shoot to 60mm without camera shake. i cant do that and dont believe in myself to hold a camera that still.

keep that in mind next time u shoot.

In summary, the kit lens was f/5.6 at 55mm and the image was an exposure of 1/50second. I did not realise it was blurry, the butterfly was flapping like mad and then became still for a few seconds; which is when I took the photo. I think the P mode is mostly automatic with the aperture being adjustable.

Here are the full details from the EXIF for the image:

EXIF Sub IFD

* Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 1/50 second ===> 0.02 second
* Lens F-Number / F-Stop = 56/10 ===> ƒ/5.6
* Exposure Program = normal program (2)
* ISO Speed Ratings = 200
* EXIF Version = 0221
* Original Date/Time = 2010:07:16 17:32:18
* Digitization Date/Time = 2010:07:16 17:32:18
* Components Configuration = 0x01,0x02,0x03,0x00 / YCbCr
* Shutter Speed Value (APEX) = 369876/65536
Shutter Speed (Exposure Time) = 1/50 second
* Aperture Value (APEX) = 325770/65536
Aperture = ƒ/5.6
* Exposure Bias (EV) = 0/2 ===> 0
* Metering Mode = pattern / multi-segment (5)
* Flash = Flash did not fire, compulsory flash mode
* Focal Length = 55/1 mm ===> 55 mm
* Exposure Mode = auto exposure (0)
* White Balance = auto (0)
* Scene Capture Type = standard (0)

This one is an 1/60 exposure image. Does it look better than the previous one? Or is it still blurry?
