It's a funny camera to put a name to, I've never been sure where to put it, how about you?

in my eyes amateur and enthusiasts are one of the same and so is prosumer and semi-pro.

1D series = pro
5D/7D = semi pro
rebels = amateur

I was hoping for a who cares option. :)
The 7D is the premier 1.6x crop camera in Canon line but how you want to classify it is up to you.

I always thought it was:
1D/5D series = pro
7D/XXD = Prosumer
rebels = mid-range

Can be whatever you want it to be.

I know some pros that shoot with digital cameras that are pushing a decade or more old, or shoot with entry level gear that would shame most of us...and I know some "pros" that have the latest and greatest stuff that could learn some lessons from a 5 year old. ;)

Prosumer is defined as a "category of products and services where professional-level features are combined with consumer-level usability and price.". Sounds like a prosumer camera to me.

Who cares?
Does a semi-pro designation suddenly make your images better or more valuable than if it were prosumer?

lol any idiot can use a 1d series cam too if he spent 5-10 minutes reading the manual briefly. If there is one thing i hate more is people who think that spending alot of money will make their photos better. Whenever I bust out my camera people are so envious and they say if i had a cam like that my pics would be great too. I believe the most important thing before picking up a camera is learning about exposure and lighting and composition and once you have a good understanding about the technical part then go ahead and get a dslr. prob 90 percent of dslr dont even change their setting off of automatic mode and only have the kits lens. That sort of defeats the purpose of slr.

How arrogant and utterly not helpful!

Just because you don't care doesn't mean that there is no reason to care. Apparently the OP has an interest in how these cameras are viewed.

And, FYI, so does Canon. You will notice on Canon's "Professional Imaging Products" page (external link), Canon did not include the entire line of DSLRs; Canon makes a distinction.
