The Sigmalux's focus issues seem to be purely due to poor calibration during manufacture - it's fully curable by sending it in for a recalibration.

The 50L's focus shift issues, however, aren't curable... apparently they're only an issue if you shoot at certain distances, though.

I just got the Canon 50mm 1.4 and will probably also get the Sigmalux and keep whichever performs best. The Canon focuses perfectly out of the box and is pleasantly sharp wide open (contrary to what I've heard) however the bokeh is not great, hence the big pull towards the Sigmalux.

I recommend Contax Carl Zeiss 50mm f.1.4 N mount converted if you can fine one.... and I've had Sigmalux, 50L, and 50MP..

runner up would be 50MP if you're ok with MF.
