I bought the Canon 400 f/4 IS yesterday (yeah!!) and of course it's too big for my current bag. I would like a bag that could hold the 40D with the 300 attached so that I could just reach in there, grab it and shoot. On the Lowepro and Tamrac sites I couldn't find anything that specifically said 'with a 300mm attached' (it's all about 70-200s that fit - it's probably there somewhere, but I didn't feel like checking out every single bag...). Of course I searched the forum as well, but people who asked the same question wanted to have space in the bag for other stuff as well. I don't. For me the bag wouldn't have to carry much else. Well, nothing else really. But it must be comfortable to take with me on my bike as that is my main means of transportation in the city. Anybody any idea? Thanks.

I can tell you that most bags that will fit a 70-200mm attached will fit as the 300mm F4L is just ever so slightly longer. Most will not say 300mm as it is not as popular as the 70-200mm lenses.

Thanks Nick. I've been looking at the Lowepro TLZ AW, thinking that maybe that would do. Seems like a really nice bag. I measured the 40D+300mm combo and it's exactly 29.6 cm whereas the Topload Zoom measures 30 cm on the inside. So it should fit. There's mention of a belt to go with it, but I'm not sure if it's in the package or if one has to buy that separately. Never mind. Thanks again.

The 300f4L fitted to either of my 40D or 1D-Mk3 easily fits into my Lowepro Fastpack 250. Just have to remember to retract the hood before trying to put it in.

You could also look at the think tank holster 40 (non-grip) and 50 (gripped body).

I've got a holster 50 myself and it holds my gripped 7D + 100-400. You can unzip the lower section to have the hood in shoot ready position (and lenscap removed).
I think the 300F4 should fit as well.

Kamera Express op de parnassusweg levert Think Tank, alleen de holsters hebben ze in a'dam niet op voorraad volgens mij.

Well, I decided to go with the Lowepro TLZ AW after all. Just ordered it. I did look at those Think Tank holsters though and they look real nice as well (Kamera Express heeft ze in voorraad), but for some reason I liked the look of the Lowepro best.

Thanks everyone. Appreciate the input.
