Can a Standard DVD Drive Play Blu-Ray?

Title says it pretty much.

I've read a couple places saying you can ready blu-ray dics with a normal DVD drive but you just can't burn with it... is this true?

I have a lovefilm subscription and I'd love to watch DVD's on blu-ray rather than measly 580p :p

No, they use different lasers and codecs.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.
