This way you can colour-match no matter which bag you decide to use that day, right?

:D

I believe you have it all wrong... it has nothing to do with functionality/usefulness.

...gotta catch'em all!!

LOL. I have the colors because I have 4 camera tools. I use all the time. The red is on my most used 5D2. The black is on my 7D, and that strap is much longer, using the extenders. The 40D has the blue strap and the lens bag has the green one. If you get the strap in one color, you'd get pretty confused quick. And the price is reasonable enough, it's not a hardship to get them all.

I use one of these now. http://optechusa.com …UCT_SUB_ID=&CATEGORY_ID=4 (external link)

Regardless what combination of body and lens I take with me, or if I decide to take two bodies, that is always comfortable for me.

Wouldn't you worry about smacking them with your hands as you walk? Even worse if you wear a big metal watch on one of your wrists (just look at the guy in the picture)

I haven't had any issues like that so far. The setup is very comfortable and allows me to have both hands free.

Not at all. I don't worry about it and it doesn't happen.
Besides, I'm pretty certain that even I was smacking my cameras with my hands: my camera would get the better side of that exchange. I'm not going to go and slap my 1D to verify that though.
