I use macro to capture textures or little details of construction that I find interesting. It's also fun to get up in the faces of the cats.

Macro doesn't have to mean photographing bugs. Is there something else that would be interesting but not creep you out?

well... i do flowers but i like i said i like the colors and textures of buggs. love to see the eyes of spiders and stuff. but when i went shooting grass hoppers, i would find myself getting goose pumps.
those things are about 3" to 5" big

 I understand. I have to be careful looking at the macro forum - butterflies or a lizard no problem, but creepy spiders or a beetle ACK not so much.

With a 100+ macro I would remind myself that I'm actually a fair distance away and figure that if I keep taking photos I'll eventually get used to seeing the bugs so up close and personal.

Think if you like the colour and texture of bugs - just keep on trying to shoot them - you should get used to it after a while.

I'm not a fan of bugs either, when I do put the macro on (rarely) I shoot my sons action figures. lol they make great models!

A few years ago I tried to take people pictures in the street. This old lady actually attacked me with her cane. Never took people pictures again.
Bugs are so much better, no cane, better colors, no screaming, often curious:).
